Day 1 – Ahmedabad – Patan – Modhera – Ahmedabad

Arrive at Ahmedabad in the morning around 0700 Hrs by Flight/Train.

Upon arrival, meet English speaking guide and drive to drive to Modhera and visit Sun Temple: Sun Temple dedicated to the Hindu Sun-God (Surya). It was built in 1026 AD by king Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty. The temple comprises three separate, axially and integrated elements. In front of the temple is a colossal tank, which was once known as Surya Kund or Rama Kund. The tank has a series of the carved steps leading to the bottom. The temple was so designed that the first rays of the sun fell on the image of Surya, the Sun God, at the time equinoxes.

Drive to Patan and visit Rani Ki Vav: Rani Ki Vav is an excellent example of subterranean architecture of Gujarat. This Vav was constructed by Udaymati, the queen of Bhimdev and represents the finest of the Indian sculptures and architecture. Sahastralinga Talav, an artificial tank was built by the Siddhraj Jai Singh in Gujarat. The architecture of this tank integrated the great sense of water management and sanctity of water in Hindu religion.

Visit Salvi Family, one of them has continued this traditional art. The weaver makes the special Patola loom and colouring from indigenous natural materials.

Veg. lunch at local restaurant.

Drive back to Ahmedabad and if time permits visit Adalaj Stepwell: It was built in 1498 in the memory of Rana Veer Singh, by his wife Queen Rudadevi. It is a fine example of Indian architecture work. The history of the Adalaj step-well is established by an inscription in Sanskrit found on a marble slab positioned in a recess on the first floor, from the eastern entry to the well.

At an appropriate time drive to Ahmedabad Airport/Railway Station to board Flight/Train. Late evening departure.
